Photographing the Charisma of the Black Redstart

If you’re a fan of wildlife photography, you’ll understand the thrill of finding that rare visitor. It’s an addictive hobby that takes you to some of the most beautiful places in the UK, and sometimes, the most unexpected ones too. I recently had a fantastic day photographing a Black Redstart at Knott End on Sea, and I’m excited to share my story with you.

I woke up early, well before sunrise, eager to start my adventure. I had heard about some new (to me) spots at Eagland Hill, and I was keen to explore them. After a short drive, I arrived at my destination, and I couldn’t believe what I saw. There were hundreds of Pink Footed Geese in a nearby field, and as I approached, they took off in a flurry of wings. It was an incredible sight, and I felt lucky to witness it.

Next, I moved on to Knott End on Sea to find the recently reported Black Redstart. It’s a bird I’ve never seen before and it would be great to tick off my ‘lifer’ list. I walked down the slipway, hoping to catch a glimpse of the visiting Twite, and then I spotted it. The Black Redstart was a busy little bird, flitting around from place to place, and I was mesmerized by its energy.

I wanted to get a better view, so I walked along the sea wall edge. It was a challenge, but I was determined to get a good look at this beautiful bird. After a bit of scrambling, I managed to get a decent photograph of the Black Redstart. It was a moment of triumph that made all the effort worth it.

But as every photographer knows, nature is unpredictable, and the rain started to come in. I knew it was time to head back home, but I felt invigorated by the experience. I had captured a piece of nature’s beauty in my camera, and it was an unforgettable feeling.

If you’re a fan of wildlife photography, I encourage you to explore new places.
You never know what you might find, and the thrill of capturing that perfect glimpse of a rare creature is worth every effort.

And remember, even if you don’t get the perfect shot, the journey is still worth it.
You get to enjoy the beauty of nature, and that’s a reward in itself.

So, what are you waiting for?
Grab your camera and go on an adventure.
You never know what you might find!

Till next time,

Scott
